Meditation is one of the most powerful tools available to help restore the harmony within and to gain access to our body's inner intelligence. In meditation, we rediscover the silence in our mind and make it part of our life. Silence is the birthplace of happiness. It is where we get our bursts of inspiration, our tender feelings of compassion, and our sense of love.
Meditation is being aware of the present moment, usually using breath/mantra as an vehicle. It is a spiritual journey reconnecting to our true self-reconnecting with spirit, that flows through everything in creation. Meditation is a process to help us, take our awareness from the level of activity of mind to quieter and quieter states of silence. It is a tool to discover who we truly are. Simply sitting for an hour in a meditative posture is not a static process. It is a dynamic, enegizing process of experiencing silence/spirit to realize our true SELF, thus integrating this awareness into our daily lives.
Primordial Sound Meditation, as introduced by Drs. Deepak Chopra and David Simon is a mantra-based practice that systematically allows the experience of quieter, more peaceful levels of the mind. A mantra is a specific sound, which when used silently, serves as a vehicle to connect with deeper aspects of consciousness. With its origins in the ancient Vedic tradition of India, Primordial Sound Meditation is the perfect antidote to modern stress.
Primordial Sounds are the most basic sounds or vibrations of the universe (laugher of children, sounds of waves, wind caressing trees). The Primordial Sounds use in meditation are called mantras. Mantras are specific and personal for each participant. Base on Vedic mathematics, an individual's mantra is based on the sound vibration of the universe at the time and place of their birth.
Essentially every thought is a sound, which has a meaning. It is the meaning of a thought, which causes our minds to have continuous stream of thoughts. Primordial Sounds are only vibrations and don't have any meaning to them. When we silently repeat Primordial Sounds (Mantras) which have no meaning attach to it, we are not held at the level of the mind. We can slip beyond thought to the level of pure consciouness/spirit. Vibration itself wants to draw our awareness to the level of spirit. Practicing meditation is not an intellectual process. It is a simple and natural process. The more we force the harder it becomes. Primordial Sound Meditation has to be practiced innocently and effortlessly.
During Primordial Sound Meditation our minds become quiet allowing our bodies to gain the deep rest necessary to release stress and fatique. In meditation we re-connect with our essence. This connection extends into our daily lives and can result in improved health, more satisfying relationships, increased creativity and renewed enthusiasm for life. The purpose of meditation is to enrich all aspects of life-body, mind, and spirit.
Today, doctors are increasingly citing stress as a major factor in such illnesses as depression, anxiety high blood pressure, cardiac pain, insomnia, diabetes, ulcers, cold, fever, asthma, arthritis and alcoholism. Even though meditation should not be considered a cure by itself, research has shown that meditation contributes to reducing stress and achieving deep realization and a profound state of rest. Meditation allows the mind and body to function with maximum effectiveness. By reducing stress, meditation has important benefits for a wide range of health problems.
Primordial Sound Meditation does not require specific beliefs or a change in behavior or lifestyle. The only change or adjustment we need to make is to allow the time to meditate regularly. Other than that, any changes in our life come spontaneously.
