About Ashaa Siewkumar

I feel as though I have been preparing for this call of teaching my entire life.

When my great-great-grandparents emigrated in 1845 from India to the Caribbean island of Trinidad, they brought with them generations of ancient Hindu traditions, a spiritual legacy that has flourished as our family has grown. As I grew up, these teachings of Bhakti Yoga, Hatha Yoga, and Ayurveda were as much a part of my world as the island on which we lived.

Given this background, becoming a yoga iteacher seemed a natural path. I have taught other forms of yoga and practiced other types of meditation for much of my life and around the world, but I always found myself wrestling with the question, "What am I great at?"
I began my journey with Deepak's books in 1996. In his words wisdom I found my answer. Hope and enthusiasm warmed my heart, and I realized that after years of searching for my calling, I was already deep into the practice for which I was born.

Following this epiphany, I met Deepak in 1999 at a Mind and Body Conference. There was these two sentences that struck me, "Every choice we make, every act we perform should come the awareness of divinity consciouness, and self awareness is the highest attainment one could aim for". In 2000 I attended "Seduction of the Spirit" where I was in AWE! I could not believe meditation could be so beautiful, so peaceful...In 2001 I joined the Chopra family as an educator in Primordial Sound Meditation. Shortly after in January 2005 the Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga became my heart and soul, and I knew I had found the way.
When I teach yoga and meditation now, my self disappears and I feel god moving through me. The words divinity consciouness and self awareness reminds me of my truth for and I know I have to teach these simple words. I.m grateful to Deepak and the Chopra family for their ongoing support and freedom to just be.

I feel privileged to share this wisdom with new seekers. It is with great honor and gratitude that I have opened the "Ashaa Yoga Studio" in Los Angeles, where I teach Primordial Sound Meditation and The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga.

Presently I live with my charming husband Jeff in Los Angeles. In addition to teaching yoga and meditation, I am an actress and have co-starred in nine films, including the critically acclaimed "The Man from Elysian Fields."
